Who Am I?

It's one of those questions. Easy to ask but hard to answer.

I could tell you what I do for a living. I'm a web development manager. But what does that mean? And does it tell you anything about me? Does it define who I am? I hope not.

I could tell you that I am a husband and father of two. I could explain that I come from a large family and I was raised in the suburbs of Chicago. I could fill you in on all my likes, dislikes, hobbies, passions and fears. But will any of it really tell you who I am? I doubt it.

What I will tell you is why I created this website.

Four years ago, I started a little project with a couple of friends. A podcast where we discussed comic books. Yes, I am a comic book fan, and I have been for most of my life. So we decided to talk about comics and the comic book industry. It was fun, and very well received. It became one of the most popular comic book podcasts on the Internet. Maybe you've heard of it .

For a few years it was exciting. I met dozens of people whose work I admired. I made a lot of friends and enjoyed the popularity that the show brought us. I traveled in circles and talked with people that only a few short years before had felt to exist in another world.

Along the way something changed. I became a littel bored with talking about comic books. What was once a hobby started to feel like a chore. I tried to change the show, but that didn't work out and wasn't fair to the listeners, or my friends. So i quit. Then I came back. Then I quit again. Who knows, I might go back to it some day.

But there is still a part of me that has something to say. Whether or not it is worth hearing is up to you. Personally, I never understood why anyone wanted to listen to us in the first place. I always thought it was a lot sillier than other people seemed to. Maybe we'll find out I was right. Maybe you will continue to baffle me. Either way, I plan to keep on talking.

I don't know exactly what this site is going to be. It's a blog, yes, but I hope for it to be more than that. I will post reviews of comics, books, movies and tv shows when something strikes me as particularly good. I'm sure there will be the appropriate amount of inanities as well. I am working on a few other projects and hobbies at the moment, and I plan on sharing them here as well. I also plan on podcasting again.  I will still talk about comic books occasionally, but not exclusively. I have many other interests that I want to discuss and hopefully I will convince some of my friends to join me.

I would like to thank all the people who listened to me on various podcasts in the past. It was a great time and I appreciated you taking the journey with me. Hopefully, some of you will decide to join me on this ride and we'll see where it goes together.
